"Saint-Tropez Couleur Bleu" est un évènement unique en France qui allie, Patrimoine, Culture et Environnement.
Saint-Tropez Couleur Bleu is a unique event in France which combines Heritage, Culture and Environment. Proposed on our initiative in 2018 and organised for the last five years in partnership with the City of Saint-Tropez, its purpose is to dress the Red Lighthouse with an original artistic work and to transform it, for one summer, into a colourful manifesto in favour of the Oceans. Inaugurated this year on 1st July, following on from 8 June, World Oceans Day, it has the support of the best of the godmothers: Maud Fontenoy, nicknamed "the watchdog of the Big Blue", a woman of convictions and exploits who is fighting for a major policy for the sea to finally come into being.
This event is a sign of the City's commitment to the great causes of the time, as well as ours in the cultural life of the Presqu'île. A life that has continued to unfold since the arrival of the first woman Mayor of Saint-Tropez, Sylvie Siri, and thanks to the joint initiatives of the very active cultural service and Michel Perrault, deputy for culture, in connection with many lovers of our world-village who are also the fervent defenders of its historical identity: that of being a land of artists and sailors.
It is in this triple capacity of artist, sailor and committed man that we have chosen this year to pay homage to Paul Signac, whose arrival the city celebrates, just one hundred and thirty years ago, on board his boat the Olympia. In keeping with our first two editions, we have called on the pointillist street artist from Aix-en-Provence, Kan, to whom we have proposed a reinterpretation of the famous painting by Théo van Rysselberghe, a Belgian painter, sailor and friend of Paul Signac, who immortalised this arrival in a painting entitled : Charlotte Hellman, the painter's great-granddaughter, says: "This painting by Théo Van Rysselberghe sums up the whole personality of his friend Paul Signac, we can see his determination, his quiet strength and his whole character is well defined in this painting. He is in a boat, he is a sailor, he is also almost at the head of a naval army. Paul Signac was a passionate sailor, trained in canoeing by Gustave Caillebotte, he owned more than thirty boats and took part in numerous regattas. This portrait of Signac is representative of their friendship.
Cyrille Gouyette, art historian, initiator in 2018 of the Street Art year at the Louvre, author of "Une street histoire de l'art" (Editions Alternatives) will once again be the co-curator of this fifth edition, which will celebrate more than ever what the beloved child of this Land of Daring embodies: The Love of the Deep.
