Installed in the park of the Château de la Moutte and based on colourised period photos, the Department of Culture of the City of Saint-Tropez invites visitors to discover who Emile Ollivier was, one of the main politicians of the Second Empire, who was opposed to and then rallied to this political regime.
This first history exhibition is naturally devoted to Émile Ollivier (1825 - 1913), a major political figure of the 19th century who is nevertheless little known to the general public. This is mainly due to the fact that this convinced republican rallied to Napoleon III, hoping to transform an authoritarian empire from within. Émile Ollivier's image also suffers from the role he played in the declaration of war against Prussia in 1870, when he was head of government. The defeat cost him his political career.

Beyond the public man, this exhibition in the gardens of the castle reveals the intimacy of Emile Ollivier by using photos from the family archives and invites the visitor to discover the man in his family, the intellectual, the writer, the lover of the Arts.
