The Var aera

01/10/2021 (archive)

There is Saint-Tropez and the peninsula, of course, but the Var area is full of many other natural resources and wonders. According the English daily newspaper The Telegraph, this area is one of the "30 places in Europe you must see in your lifetime". It is up to you...

You can travel and explore by foot, riding a horse, or by car the Maures hills and the cork oak forests and chestnut trees. A stop in Collobrières for the Chestnut festival and to discover the monastery of La Chartreuse de la Verne.

You can also visit the hilltop villages in the Fayence area (Montauroux, Callian, Seillans, Tourrettes, Mons). Further, you can enjoy the breathtaking landscapes and the aquamarine waters of the Gorges du Verdon and the Lake of Sainte-Croix. And you can stroll along the narrow streets of the villages around the amazing canyon (Aiguines, Aups, Bauduen, Les Salles-sur-Verdon).

You can move towards the Maures valley and the shoreline, having a nice break in the humble cloister of Le Thoronet abbey or walking down the streets of the medieval village of Les Arcs-sur-Argens. And if you are an art and history enthusiast, Fréjus will be the next stop before reaching the Esterel hills and the red mountains overlooking the Mediterranean.

Here you are, on the shoreline! Do you want to take off on the sea? You can go to beautiful islands for dream getaways, Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant from several ports, that are very nice seaside resorts : Hyères, Bormes les Mimosas or Le Lavandou.

Going more to the west, Toulon offers sightseeing attractions and a beautiful bay, and Bandol offers beautiful landscapes and vineyards producing the famous rosé wine.

Despite this enchanting route, you cannot visit the whole Var area. We will leave it to you to discover all the treasures! Then, you will need to come back again and again...
