La Garde Freinet près de Saint-Tropez

These small and narrow roads that go through forests of chestnut trees and cork oak trees will lead you to the very heart of the Maures hills where you will find this wonderful hilltop village called La Garde-Freinet overlooking the valley. Such a picturesque village with its beautiful old stone houses, where the locals found a quiet and safe haven of peace far away from the hectic coastal lifestyle.

No one doubts that this exceptional panoramic view, which stretches along the Mediterranean coast line up to the French Alps inspires them just as much as it does the visitors who came for the sheer authenticity and of course the nature.

People come here in search of the beautiful historic heritage like the “Fort-Freinet” (12th-16th century) and the remains of an ancient fortified village from the middle ages, made up from around thirty houses carved in the stone. Then from there, enjoy the famous walking trails (La Croix des Maures, le Chemin des Crêtes) and pass through the tiny villages (la Mourre, la Cour, le Val d’Aubert).

Let’s have a gourmet break enjoying the local specialties : chestnut cream, patiences fraxinoises (small ring biscuits with nuts and almonds) and honey that will tempt your taste buds.

People like strolling through the narrow sloping streets of the village, between fountains and ancient washhouses, and having a break on the main square to enjoy the market and a good restaurant. It is also possible to find very interesting art galleries. Many traditional events take place here throughout the year : the santon fair (small hand-painted terracotta nativity scene figurines) before Christmas, transhumance celebration in spring, chestnut fair in October.

La Garde-Freinet is a Provencal village, close to the Saint-Tropez bay where locals and visitors both live happily.
