Château Barbeyrolles

A vineyard in the peninsula of Saint-Tropez

A vineyard on the Saint-Tropez peninsula Château Barbeyrolles was acquired in 1977 by Régine Sumeire. This 12-hectare vineyard, at the foot of Gassin, is a preserved place on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, of magical beauty.

The organic and biodynamic vineyard is partly ploughed by horse and the traditional soil work is mechanical and manual, without herbicides. The 8 red and white grape varieties are hand-picked and sorted with great care in the vineyard and in the cellar. The vinification is done by gravity in direct pressing, without crushing. Bottled at Château Barbeyrolles.

Organic and Biodynamic wines.

Régine Sumeire was one of the first women to make wine in Provence. Since 1978, she has been making wine at Château Barbeyrolles. In 1985, she created the Rosé "Pétale de Rose", a diaphanous rosé that has since changed the perception and reputation of rosés. Her father, Roger Sumeire, let her make her first white and red wines at the Tour de l'Evêque, which have won awards ever since.

Member of several bachic orders since 1982, she was named Commander of the illustrious Order of the Knights of Medusa, Dame of the Order of Wine and Table. Recognised by her peers in the French appellations in 2008, she became a member of the Académie du Vin de France. "It is to the owner of Châteaux Barbeyrolles and La Tour de l'Evêque that we owe these pale, sometimes almost diaphanous, airy and fruity rosés...

Rather than appearing as a rosé icon, she is now fighting for the recognition of Provence's reds" Michel Bettane, Thierry Desseauve and JF Pécresse. Les Echos 19 and 20 June 2014. Between Pomerol and Montrachet, rosé wine also has its terroirs of excellence... Régine Sumeire, a woman of the vineyard who is committed to the cause of French wine, makes one of the best rosés in the Provence vineyard, and therefore in the world.

The cuvée "Pétale de rose", the flagship of Château Barbeyrolles, is indeed one of the most refined and elegant expressions of this type of wine. Perico Legasse and in 2014 in Marianne from 13 to 19 June 2014: "Château Barbeyrolles, the jewel of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, the estate located in Gassin produces one of the references of the great French rosé of exception... The first of the great wines in this colour whose concept has been taken up by all the aristocracy of the Southeast."

His wines are found all over the world and often appear on the wine lists of starred and renowned restaurants. The recipe book "Entre vignes et mer" written by Régine Sumeire in 2021, retraces the family history and can give ideas on food and wine pairing.
