Les Conversations d'Agnès and Hôtel de Paris Saint-Tropez welcome Cyrille Gouyette, author of "Faces au mur, le portrait dans l'art urbain".
Opening the Week-End Hommage à Françoise Sagan with our favorite art historian, Cyrille Gouyette, who returns with a third book published by Éditions Alternatives (Gallimard): "Faces au mur, Le portrait dans l'art urbain".
This eighth edition of Saint-Tropez Couleur Bleu makes a grand and erudite entrance, since Cyrille Gouyette's particularity is to focus on the continuity between ancient art and urban art, which he does with talent and...élan!
Taking up the words of Hans Belting, anthropologist of images - "The success of the portrait comes from the fact that it holds up a mirror to the society in which it is reflected, even if this image is transmitted through the intermediary of a single person" - the historian reinterrogates the art of portraiture: "Apart from physical resemblance, what does a portrait tell us about its model? How do we depict the psychological personality, the particular character, the temperament, the feelings?" and with this new opus, he takes us on a journey through the thousand and one faces that artists of all times have endeavored to capture, reveal, transform or sublimate.
Cyrille Gouyette will be talking about the portraits of Sagan by artist JBC, which you can see on June 14 at 7pm, at the foot of Saint-Tropez's famous Phare Rouge lighthouse. Two portraits: one pensive, chosen by Denis Westhoff, Françoise Sagan's darling son, so totally invested in his mother's work, and the other mischievous, chosen by us, revealing another facet of the "charming little monster" and that face so mimetically close to an animal both caressing and distant: the cat.
