Saint-Tropez, Art and Culture

Saint-Tropez, city of art and history, has a vibrant cultural heritage!

Art is everywhere and in all its forms

starting with four very beautiful museums:

The Annonciade museum in an old chapel erected around 1510 by the brotherhood of the White Penitents, facing the port

The Gendarmerie and Cinema Museum on Place Blanqui, in the former Saint-Tropez gendarmerie which served as the backdrop for the Gendarmes saga

The Maritime History Museum in the keep of the Citadel from where you will have a breathtaking view

The House of the Butterflies in the house-museum of its passionate creator, Dany Lartigue

Many art galleries are scattered throughout the alleys of the village: modern art, decorative objects and vintage furniture, major names in contemporary art, artists of yesterday and today … There is something for every taste!

The Lavoir Vasserot, listed as a Historic Monument, hosts art exhibitions throughout the year.

The two floors of the Salle Jean Despas regularly host events, exhibitions and art fairs.

And it is in town that, every summer, monumental sculptures by major artists are exhibited in several strategic points of the village. Among past exhibitions, Saint-Tropez had the pleasure of welcoming artists: Lorenzo Quinn, Fernando Botero, Niki de Saint Phalle, Cesar, Arman, Jean-Michel Folon, Jan Fabre, Bernard Bezzina, Igor Mitoraj …

For music lovers, the Soirées de la Pesquière, the Festival des Nuits du Château de la Moutte or the new festival La Moutte takes the stage, welcoming on balmy summer evenings, renowned artists, with eclectic and attractive programming.

In spring and fall, the Société Tropézienne Les Amis de la Musique organizes a classical music festival at the La Renaissance theater.

The historic and totally magical site of the Citadel hosts several concerts and turns into a giant dance floor for the Délices Sonores evening in August. .

In October, the Rencontres Internationales du Cinéma des Antipodes takes place: a festival during which, for several days, Australian and New Zealand short and feature films are screened in La Renaissance cinema.
