Sailing competition - Marblehead Trophy Dragon
From 14/11/2025 to 16/11/2025
The Marblehead Cup was created in 1929 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the town of Marblehead, Massachusetts, to showcase Marblehead's pride as a sailing capital. Why the Cup itself is boldly engraved "Marblehead Trophy" when the deed of gift clearly states that the prize is to be known as the "Marblehead Cup" will probably always remain the Cup's primary mystery. It is therefore a historic prize inseparable from the DRAGON Class and remains an eternal mystery. The Trophy has disappeared and reappeared, been recovered, narrowly defended, and thought lost forever. At the same time, it could rightly be called the "European Cup", for it was taken from the United States in 1929, in the very first race organized by the Swedes, and has remained in Europe ever since - where the Dragon class has contested it since 1952. The tradition of this trophy is that the winning club organizes the following year's regatta, and by the member who won the cup.
Dirk Oldenburg, a member of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, won the Marblehead Cup in Denmark in 2024, so he suggested that his club host the championship in Saint-Tropez. Some forty Dragons are expected to take part in the event.
From Friday 14 to Sunday 16 November 2025.
