Concert - Fall Festival: *Les Goyescas* for piano

On November 4, 2026, pianist Mathis Cathignol, first-prize winner of the 2024 Pierre Barbizet International Piano Competition, will perform works by Enrique Granados: *El Pelele* and the famous *Suite Goyescas*, Op. 11.
Born in 2000, Mathis CATHIGNOL earned his master’s degrees in piano and accompaniment from the Paris Conservatory (CNSM) with unanimous honors, after studying under Florent Boffard, Claire Désert, Romano Pallottini, Roger Muraro, and Jean-Frédéric Neuburger. He has also received regular guidance from Célimène Daudet, Michael Wladkowski, Igor Lazko, and Bernard d’Ascoli, and has attended masterclasses with Bertrand Chamayou, Nelson Goerner, Jacques Rouvier, Frédéric Aguessy, François-René Duchâble, Dominique Merlet, Philippe Cassard, and Hortense Cartier-Bresson. In 2015, he received the first Gabriel Dussurget “Rising Star” Prize, awarded by the Gabriel Dussurget Association under the auspices of the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory. He went on to win numerous international competitions (Montrond-les-Bains, Flame, Chatou, Cognac, Pianissima, Collioure). In December 2024 in Marseille, he won first prize at the Pierre Barbizet International Piano Competition, and then in March 2025, he won third prize and the JMF Prize for the best French candidate at the Épinal Competition. Mathis appeared as a soloist three times between 2014 and 2017 with the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory Orchestra, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1. More recently, he performed Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments and Fauré’s Ballade in Paris, Ravel’s Concerto in G in Moldova, and Chopin’s Concerto in E minor in Épinal with the Metz National Orchestra. In January 2025, he appeared on the France Musique program *Générations*, hosted by Clément Rochefort. In the summer of 2025, Mathis was featured on the lineups of the Nohant, Pontlevoy, and La Roque d’Anthéron festivals.
