MARPA’s work falls within the realms of Refined Figuration and Modern Primitivism. It reveals the influence of the animalist movement (reminiscent of François Pompon’s synthesis of forms) and an exploration of biomorphism.
Its pillars are:
1. The Ontology of Matter: Marble is not a medium, but a living partner whose “mineral memory” MARPA reveals.
2. Transversal Humanism: His background as an educator and advocate infuses his works with a quest for resilience and dignity. Each sculpture is an allegory of care and balance.
3. Tactile Dialogue: Aesthetics are dictated by the hand (organic touch) rather than by sight alone, seeking harmony between raw mass and polished softness.
MARPA, the Revealer of Silences
Born under the skies of Touraine, MARPA grew up at the confluence of iron and spirituality. Between his father’s artistic ironwork studio and the shadow cast by Caravaggio’s masterpieces, he forged at an early age a gaze capable of piercing the density of the world. After a career dedicated to otherness—assisting the most vulnerable through the labyrinth of human justice—he made a radical return to the earth.
A sculptor on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, he now engages in a physical struggle with ancient stone (marble, serpentinite, granite). His art is an exercise in maieutics: he does not “create” form, but extracts it from mineral chaos. His hands, guided by an almost mystical intuition, polish the metamorphic rock until it becomes a mirror of humanity. Between precarious balance and the tenderness of volumes, MARPA’s work is a song of hope, a humble yet monumental attempt to restore to Creation the beauty it has entrusted to us.
Rodrigue HORNEZ
Focusing primarily on the theme of Saint-Tropez, “RH-Peintre” exhibits some twenty oil paintings created using a combination of palette knife and brush. Working in a contemporary figurative style, he draws inspiration primarily from his surroundings, blending softness, strength, and emotion to bring his works to life.
Originally from the North, Rodrigue HORNEZ developed a passion for painting and drawing at a young age while attending the Art School of Douai (59) as well as the Duhem studio. A member of the Association of Artists of Douai, he exhibits at various art events and has received several awards.
A member of the Association of Artists of Ramatuelle since 2018, with a presence at numerous exhibition venues in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, Rodrigue HORNEZ’s work, characterized by a contemporary figurative style, is a passion that allows him above all to escape and express himself, while providing him with both personal and professional balance. His artistic style is primarily based on oil painting, blending realism and contrast; he uses both brush and palette knife depending on what he wishes to express.
The palette knife allows him to work with thickness, using strokes of varying widths, energetically, and to draw within the paint with sharp, rapid gestures, thus creating vibrant, textured works.
The palette knife sculpts the thickened paint with vivid, intense colors, aiming to infuse the works with emotion and life.
From 10/09 to 16/09/2026 daily between 10 am and 8 pm.
Free entry.
