Born in 2009, Gabriel DEMEESTER was introduced to the violin at a very young age by his grandfather. He began playing the violin at age seven, followed by the piano. In 2021, he passed the entrance exam for the Menuhin School, earned his DipABRSM with Distinction in 2022, and is currently continuing his studies as a Music Scholar at Westminster School in London.
Gabriel is a prize winner of the SIMA Classics Competition (Audience Award, 2021), a finalist in the London International Chopin Competition (2023), and the winner of the SESCMC chamber music competition in London in March 2026. Gabriel is the first violinist of the Westminster School Symphony Orchestra.

Born in 2012 in Geneva, Raphaël DEMEESTER grew up in the United Kingdom as one of four siblings who are all musicians. He began playing the violin at age six, followed by the piano and cello.
Winner of the SIMA Classics Competition (1st Prize across all instrument categories, 2021) and the London International Chopin Competition (1st Prize in the Polonaise category, 2023), he earned his ABRSM Diploma in Violin that same year. In 2025, in Paris, he won 2nd Prize in the cello category at the Flame Competition. A finalist in the Prodiges competition (2024), he studied at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, where he won Second Prize for all string instruments at the Hugh Bean Competition (and First Prize for Cello), then became a Music Scholar at Westminster School in London in September 2025, where he served as principal cellist of the orchestra.

Founded in 2002 by Nicole Blanchi, the Sophia Antipolis Symphony Orchestra’s mission is to share the experience of orchestral music with as many people as possible and to make classical music accessible to all. Supported by the Valbonne Sophia-Antipolis Conservatory to encourage amateur music-making, we are now an independent association, still based in Valbonne Sophia Antipolis. The Sympho-Sophia Orchestra is currently conducted by Nicolas PIEL.

Saturday 18 July 2026 from 8.30 pm.
