L'Annonciade, Saint-Tropez Museum of Modern Art

Founded in 1922, the Musée de l’Annonciade highlights the vital role Saint-Tropez played in the history of modern painting. It all began with Paul Signac, who arrived in 1892 aboard the *Olympia*.
Charmed by the region, Signac bought a house there—which he turned into his studio, La Hune—and invited many painters to stay there: Cross, Matisse, Derain, and Marquet. The collections on display, spanning the years 1890 to 1950, are remarkable both for their quality and their cohesion. All of the artists featured based their work on an exploration of color while remaining faithful to figurative art. This collection consists of first-rate paintings, primarily belonging to the Pointillist, Nabi, and Fauvist movements.

Starting in November 2026, the City will begin demolition, renovation, and expansion work.
The museum is currently closed, with reopening scheduled for 2029.

Ultimately, 1,050 m² of new exhibition space and 650 m² of garden will be created. The museum layout will be more intuitive, accessibility will be enhanced, and conservation conditions will be improved. An educational space will also be created, while a new gallery will host major international temporary exhibitions!
