DO YOU ? A story of linen reinvented€...
Two artists, two perspectives.
One question: what about you? Do you ?
One weaves and coats, the other inscribes her words and her imprint.
The washhouse becomes a space of memory and creation, between sun and shade.
Douliou ? Doux lieu ...
Douliou: Provencal for doux lieu (sweet place) gave rise to the song do you do you Saint-Tropez.
Inspired by the yéyé variety of the moment, the song is a twist on surf music and Hully-Gully dancing.
SAINT TROPEZ, a Provençal fishing port that unwittingly became an icon of luxury.
And in the heart of the town, the washhouse. Here, women washed, scrubbed and soaked. They removed stains, rinsed away fatigue, talked, laughed, cried, confided their secrets, shared their strengths, supported their frailties. In the clear water, they came together to reinvent themselves, to be reborn, to carry on.
Dominique de Bellefroid and Marie-Elisabeth Cornet pay tribute to them by sharing this place, and looking back on their intertwined destinies.
They take over the space of the washhouse to weave a dialogue of images and materials, a cross-view of their histories and collective memory.
One weaves, weaves, paints, sews and cuts, the other draws, outlines and spreads.
Two artists who choose to look towards the sun and, in this collective gesture, recall the strength and dignity of those who came before them.
